The project’s long term objective was the preservation of local cultural heritage in European villages and the economic development of rural areas of the EU by assessing and developing their local cultural values into a tourist attraction, providing a good basis for further development of rural tourism. 

The project aimed at involving local communities in defining, mapping and caring for what they consider important about their local cultural landscape and what contributes to the perception of regional identity and a sense of place.  The project also helped to reshape the relationship of local people to their values and their history as part of the European identity. 

The project contributed to transnational economic and social cohesion by virtue of the variety of partners involved at local and regional level both at the preparation phase and later during the implementation and marketing phase.
